Happy Spring!

Just a little update to let you know that I have posted the dates for WOWS and Women's Herbal Intensive . I have decided to keep accepting registrations for WOWs and if need be I will hold two classes. And given the number of registrations to date it looks like that will most likely be the case.  We're still accepting registrations for Women's Herbal Intensive. This is going to be a fabulous course so I encourage all of you Wise and Wild women to come and join us for an experience of a lifetime!
The Home Herbalist is at present on hold due to lack of registrations but this doesn't mean it's out of the picture for 2010 yet.

More Updates!

Well, two days after the Seed Swap and I am still smiling! As always, the event was a resounding success! I remember attending the fist seed swap at least 15 years ago, in the home of Gabriel and Wolf Wesle - there were a smattering of people there and we exchanged a few seeds and swapped a few stories. Kudos to the folks who have kept it going and created such a beautiful event today! It really is one of the nicest events - if not the nicest - in the valley. The coming together of like minded, beautiful, Earth loving people is truly a heart warming, energizing experience. If you haven't yet been to this event, make sure to attend next year.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table. It was wonderful to get such positive feedback from you about our display, website and those hugs were exceptionally nice too!

It was great to see Sarah Martel - Four Elements Farm - with her lovely display of dried herbs, seeds and scrumptious salad dressings and best of all, her beautiful baby boy - Eric Arthur. Eric was our youngest student ever, having attending classes, snug in his Mom's belly! And so wonderful to see  our own Terryn Trachuk with her Om Naturals products. Terryn has worked hard to create exquisite natural body care products.  Her products are some of the best on the market and we are so very proud of her. You can find Terryn at the Farmer's Market in Vernon and around the Okanangan.

I am working on the schedules this week as well as some more updates so stay posted as they will be available soon. I'll be sending out an email to everyone on my email list as well as posting them on my website.

For those of you who didn't get to the Seed Swap here's a pic of our display.

Until next time......as always...take good care of yourself, one another and the Earth.

Green Blessings!

Greetings Friends and  Fellow Plant Lovers!

It's been awhile since I did any updates but what with the Seed Swap on the imminent horizon - tomorrow in fact - I figured it was high time to do  so!

First off - we had an amazing year and an amazing group of students here last year! You can read all about them over at our Blog. It truly is my honour and privilege to come in to contact, via Wild Roots, some of the most amazing and beautiful people. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Registrations for Walk on the Wild Side have been hot and heavy and will be closing down soon so, if you are considering taking this course please make sure you get your application asap!

There are still spaces open in both The Home Herbalist and Womens Herbal Intensive. The Home Herbalist incorporates and builds upon Walk on the Wild Side so if you are looking for a more indepth experience this is the course for you! And yes - both WOWs and The Home Herbalist are open to men too! Womens Herbal Intensive (for women only) will forever change your life! Nurturing, nourishment, engaging the energy with plants, people and self, creating ceremony and ritual and as always lots of time hands-on with plants will be the focus of this course.

The Communtiy Herbalist is still in the works  however, the design and development - the gestation period if you will -  is taking some time. Because this is a one of  a kind, if not the only herbal course that incorporates an in-depth ecological/environmental component we want to get it right!  So, for those of you who have inquired about dates and curriculum, please hang in there and be patient. We can guarantee once it's up and running it will have been well worth the wait!

If you are looking for a hands-on, up close and personal, intimate learning experience with plants, be assured that our classes and courses here at Wild Roots are for you!

The Apprenticeship position has now been filled! We are thrilled to have not just one but two Apprentices joining us this year - Dawn Sharman and Michelle Dallyn.  Dawn is a yoga instructor, doula and plant lover. Michelle has a background in recreation and rehabilitation health and has taught primitve living skills - fire making, hide tanning, cordage to name a few - so we will for sure be getting a little more primitive this year!

And a very big thank you to everyone who submitted an application for the  position.  Remember you can apply again next year and please consider taking a course if you are serious about pursuing an opportunity with us.

And on another note, while we watch as flowers bloom and the grass grows  green -  unseasonably so - we here in the Shuswap are wondering what happened to our Winter! As much as I have (really)  enjoyed the respite from shoveling snow (not to mention what a relief it's been to drive on dry roads and make it safely to town without worrying about wether or not I'm going to be smushed by another car sliding off  an icy road into me) I miss my Winter! I miss snow on cedars; snow melting on eyelashes, lips and tongue; snow - fluffly, white and pristine; snow falling silently, silently turning everything into a magical fairlyland. I miss the colour palette of Winter in the Shuswap - the quiet, calm and misty hues of greys and blues and whites juxtaposed agasint a backdrop of green.
I miss the deep, quiet rest that only Winter provides.
Well - we shall see what Nature holds in store for us this coming year!

As always - take good care of yourself, one another, and the Earth!

Green Blessings!

Barbara, Dawn and Michelle

Website Updates:
Ta Daaah ....We are  very pleased to announce the  launch of our new website!! For some time now I've been wanting to overhaul the Wild Roots website.  Reluctant to impose yet another task upon my already way too busy webmaster of the last five years , Dave Crozier, I decided to take matters into my own hands and do the job msyelf!  And with the help of a nifty little do-it-yourself web site bullder called Homestead I've done just that! I hope you like it! If so - please let me know! Many thanks to Dave for all his help these past few years.

The webiste will be a work in progress as I continue with the updates  - adding more pages including a photo gallery of the local flora (as I have a stockload of great photos), a more detailed bio about me,  a blog, frequently asked questions, testimonials and possibly some articles, so...stay tuned! In the meantime please take some time and have a look at the site and broswe the pages - there are some really wonderful photos of plant friends and people friends from our classes. The photos are taken mostly by me with contributions from students.

Class Updates:
I've spent the Winter  redesigning our certificate programs. Students can now progress in their herbal learning at a successive pace from Beginner, with our ever popular Walk on the Wild Side  to Intermediate with The Home Herbalist  which is a new program for 2009 to an Advanced Level with The Community Herbalist - an exciting new program to be offered in 2010!

The Women's Herbal Intensive has been completely revised and it will be offered in 2010.

Along with our certificate programs we continue to offer our one day plant walks - A Walk in the Park and A Walk in the Forest, our one day specialty workshops and our increasingly popular Herbal Lecture series.

We are pleased to welcome Heather Lalonde as this year's Apprentice.
Unbeknownst to me  Heather has been following Wild Roots for quite some time, wanting to take a class but due to circumstances it just wasn't happening. Well, the stars aligned for her this year  allowing Heather to fully immerse herself as an Apprentice.  You can meet Heather  here.

I do  hope you will take some time and come and play with the plants!

Green Blessings,

Barbara
