Traditional Herbalism
“Hands-on” ~ “Heart-felt” ~ “Home-based”
“Hands –On”
Traditional Herbalists gather and grow their own healing plant medicines and nutritious foods from wild places and their own backyard gardens. Plants are our beloved friends and gentle neighbours and in gathering and growing our own herbs with own our hands we are honouring plants for their sacred purpose on Earth.
“Home-Based”
Traditional Herbalists honour the ancient tradition of the “Hearth”.
High quality herbal medicines and nourishing foods are prepared at home. Healing is delivered from home to home, door to door, neighbour to neighbour, community to community…. healing roots traveling across the planet.
“Heart-Felt”
Traditional Herbalists believe Love Medicine is the most powerful medicine of all. Food and medicine is grown, gathered and prepared with Love. Love is the secret ingredient in all of our preparations. We love what we do and we love sharing what we do with you!
Our passion is teaching others about the healing power of plants and the bio-diversity of the landscapes in which they thrive.
Our goal is to deliver high quality, accessible and affordable education in Traditional Herbalism.
Our intent is to assist you in deepening your connection to the land around you while empowering you to become your own Herbalist thus awakening your intuitive knowledge of the Healer within.

Your Guide and Instructor
Traditional Herbalist, Wild Woman, Wise Woman ~ Barbara DuTot
Barbara has over 25 years experience as a Traditional Herbalist. Having lived a rural lifestyle in the Shuswap for over 30 yeras she is intimately acquainted with the plant communities of forest, field, stream, meadow and mountain. Her passions (besides plants) are wild landscapes, horses and dogs.
"I guess you can tell by the photos on the website - most of which were taken by yours truly - that I spend a lot of time hanging out with plants. Needless to say I am pretty much head over heals in love with plants and the landscapes in which they live! I've been this way forever. Growing up as a young girl in rural Cape Breton Island, at a very young age I was given free rein to roam the forests and fields and I haven't stopped!! My goal with Wild Roots is to create a community of Herbal Healers - a Herbalist in every home and in every community - so we can all take care of ourselves, one another and the Earth".
